Religious Education resumes in September Spirited Times - September 2007
While registration began in April 2007 for the Church
of the Holy Spirit 2007/2008 Religious Education program, registration
continues for new families and those who may have missed registration and
would still like to participate.
The program includes religious education for
kindergarten through 5th grades, an adolescent program for 6th,
7th, 8th, and 9th graders and their parents,
home-based catechesis, Sacrament preparation programs, Liturgy of the Word
for Children, and Vacation Bible School (Escuela
Bíblica de Verano).
For those families who have been in the program before,
registration packets were mailed the end of March. Those not receiving a
packet or new to the parish can call the Religious Education Office at (847)
882-7584. Please leave a message if no one is available immediately.
For sacraments, preparation happens in the home, within
the family setting, following adult enrichment sessions. The family need not
be registered in the parish to participate.
First Eucharist:
Eligibility begins when a child reaches the age of seven. Preparation
process begins in the fall with parent orientation and enrichment. Sacrament
received during the Easter season.
Reconciliation:
Eligibility begins when a child reaches the age of seven. A special
enrichment process for those in 5th grade begins with adult
enrichment in January and the sacrament during Lent.
Confirmation:
Available to those young people 15 years of age and older.
Liturgy of the
Word for Children is an excellent way for young people ages 4, 5, 6, and
7 to hear the Gospel proclaimed in words they can understand and appreciate.
This is followed by an activity which highlights the themes and teachings of
a particular Gospel. In a simple and consistent manner the young people
become familiar with the tradition of scripture. Registration is not
necessary. The presider calls the children up for a blessing and they’re
escorted to the lower level of the Parish Center; they return before
Communion. This is available during the 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. mass, September through April.
Staff members
include: Mark A. Buckley, Director of Religious Education; Carmen
DeLaMora, RE secretary; and Rosi Viquez, Coordinator of Hispanic Catechesis.
