Helping women find
their way
By Mark T. Hoske
Women in Talbrjte, Morocco,
through CHS young adult parishioner Erin Atwell’s Peace Corps efforts,
will have new opportunities and services with construction of a Women’s
Center. Ed Atwell, Erin’s
dad, praises the effort, since women in
Morocco
traditionally have not had as much value and support as men.
“It has really been exciting for Erin to actually get the local governments’ help and
buy-in on this project. It goes
to show that they may be turning the corner their view on women.”
Erin
began her Peace Corps service in March 2008 and will be done in May of
2010. Peace Corps volunteers
commit to a 27-month period consisting of 3 months of training in
country and 24 months at their site.
After numerous approvals in Morocco
and in the U.S., Erin
received approval from the Peace Corps folks in
Washington,
DC, for the project.
If individuals or
their companies would like to consider donating to the construction of
the Talbrjte Women's Center,
please see Erin’s
story (click here).
